Overview






Knowledge Services is seeking a Technical Writer for a contract through end of Dec 2024 with the State of Indiana Public Retirement System.  This is a hybrid work schedule of 3 days onsite in downtown Indianapolis and 2 days a week working from home.  

 

Hybrid Schedule:

Tuesday-Thursday onsite and remote Monday and Friday.  (May be required to flex their days depending on the business need)

 

 









Responsibilities






Technical Writer Responsibilities:

• The technical writer will be required to create new, maintain existing, and ensure consistency across all documentation. The technical writer will also be responsible for the following:
• Create, edit, and /or revise the following:

       - Capture departmental processes and create new procedure documentation.

       - Policy documents based on agency governance rules and state/administrative statutes/rules

       - Forms including state forms and internal departmental forms.
• Determine the type of publication that will best serve the document requirements and use existing approved templates.
• Meet with department stakeholders to create new procedures and review and update any current documentation.
• Conduct walk-thru meetings for revisions and ad hoc meetings to create new documentation.
• Review existing related documentation and interview SMEs to develop new documentation.
• Assess the audience for whom the documentation is intended; adjust tone and technical terms used to ensure understanding.
• Plan documentation processes, including meetings, development, routing for approval, and publication.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.









Qualifications






Technical Writer Requirements:

• At least 1 -3 years of related experience.

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Writing, or related field required.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent writing, editing, and grammatical skills.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and consistency.
• Ability to maintain cordial working relationships with other associates.
• Ability to set up, manage, and conduct both in-person and virtual meetings.
• Ability to present complex data in clear, concise text.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work independently or as a team, as needed.
• Ability to edit and proofread the work of colleagues.
• At a minimum, intermediate knowledge of the following:
       -Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Paint/Snip & Sketch (or current iteration of graphics package), MS Teams, SharePoint
       -Adobe Acrobat Pro/DC for both conversion and editing
• Ability to learn with only minimal instruction the following:
       - In-house created applications such as PolicyTech
       - Document management system
